Alexander J Cook Aust Pty Ltd was established in 1947, when the founder, James Alexander Cook, established an upholstery company in Colebrook Street, Brunswick, in inner suburban Melbourne.
A local landmark of the time, the company supplied established retailers such as Georges and undertook major commissions in more recent times, including the refurbishment of the Queen's suite in Government House, Canberra.
In 1971 the company took over the business of Peterandrew/Andrewartha Bros. - a company whose history dates back to the 19th Century. A long tradition of cabinet and furniture making was carried on from Andrewartha.
Today, Alexander J Cook Aust Pty Ltd maintains the tradition of a family business. With over twenty tradesmen, mostly craftsmen of many years experience, the company takes pride in producing furniture to exacting standards.
